What is Brassica Oleracea Italica Extract?

Broccoli is a brassica – a genus of plant in the mustard family that includes kale and cabbage – and has tight clusters of deep green buds and thick, edible stems. It is rich in nutrients –
Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc – and also contains the anti-cancer compound sulforophane. A cup of broccoli contains as much Vitamin C as an orange and is a good source of beta-carotene.

Benefits of Brassica Oleracea Italica Extract:

Rich in antioxidants, broccoli protects the skin and hair from UV rays and free radical damage.
It’s also a good source of Vitamin A that helps with skin cell regeneration to promote clear and even-toned skin. The National Academy of Sciences from Johns Hopkins established that the sulforaphane in broccoli may help prevent skin cancer caused by ultraviolet radiation. Topical applications of broccoli extract on animals and human volunteers galvanized the skin cells to step up production of enzymes that help act as a sunscreen to combat the damaging effects of UV rays.

The Cancer Research journal reported a study that found concentrated extract from broccoli sprouts halved the incidence of bladder tumors in animals. In 2010, the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center found that sulforaphane from broccoli extract “killed the cancer stem cells and prevented new tumors from growing” in cell cultures and in tests on animals. A research by the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico also found that a course of broccoli extract treatments on hamsters lowered their high LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Side Effects & Toxicity:

An extremely safe ingredient, Brassica Oleracea Italica Extract has no known toxicity in general use and is shown to be non-irritating and suitable for sensitive skin.

Editor’s Note:

Broccoli seed oil contains erucic acid, a special omega-9 fatty acid that gives hair its natural smooth sheen. It is similar to the silicone found in shampoos and conditioners that give hair its shiny look.
